Design features

Similar to the importance of seat height when choosing an exercise bike is the size of the running area on a treadmill.

This is particularly important for anyone over 6ft tall as they will have a larger stride length which may feel restricted on treadmills with a smaller running deck.

Measuring 150cm x 50cm the running deck on the Tunturi Classic Run 3.0 is more than large enough for even very tall users and is one of the largest running areas available on any treadmill.

For when you want to train using the heart rate controlled workouts, or even just to monitor your heart rate there is a set of heart rate hand sensors that have been built into the front hand rail just below the display console.

If you are struggling to decide between a treadmill in the Pure range and the Classic Run 3.0, the main feature that sets the two apart is the fact that the Classic is foldable.

This makes the Classic Run 3.0 much better suited to anyone who is more limited on space but still wants a high quality treadmill for use at home. (Treadmill dimensions can be found at the end of the article)

Ease of assembly

Despite being one of the larger and heavier fitness machines you can use at home, the Tunturi Classic Run 3.0 couldn’t be simpler to put together.

The fact that this treadmill is foldable helps with the display console support arms being able to fold down on top of the main running deck, which is how it is packaged in the box.

With all the parts unpacked all you need to do to be ready for your first workout is lift the upright support section into place, attach the display console and attach a couple of side caps to the upright.

Even though it should be straight forward enough to setup without them, there is a page of detailed instructions with drawings making it very clear how each part fits together.

Display console design

An important feature to look for when buying any treadmill is the safety features.

This is even more important on models such as the Tunturi Classic Run 3.0 which have very short hand rails.

The main safety feature with this particular treadmill is attached to the display console. This is an item called a ‘safety tether key’.

Essentially one end will clip onto the display console and the other onto an item of your clothing. If you do happen to fall then the safety tether key will be pulled out of the display console and the running belt will immediately stop moving.

Although at first glance the console screen and button placement may look complicated, once you start a workout it actually becomes very intuitive.

As with many of the Tunturi treadmills, the incline and speed adjustment buttons are symbols to make it easier to identify what they each relate to.

If you like to change the incline or speed frequently by smaller amounts during your workouts then these will be perfect for that.

If however you prefer to increase the incline or speed settings by larger amounts than 1% for incline or 0.2km/h for speed, then there are also sets of quick select buttons.

After pressing one of these quick select buttons the Tunturi Classic Run 3.0 running deck will start adjusting to meet that setting.

This saves a lot of time during your workout where you would otherwise have to repeatedly press the increase or decrease buttons. The quick select buttons are also much more accurate.

In terms of the display screen, this is split between 2 backlit LCD windows. The top section is used to display your time, speed, distance, incline, calories burned and heart rate, while the smaller screen provides instructions throughout your workout.

Workout programmes

For some of the information to be as accurate as possible, such as the calories burned, at the start of workouts the display screen will request you enter your bodyweight.

After this is done you will have access to a selection of 23 different training programs.

These offer a wide variety of different workouts which mostly fall into the following 3 categories:

[tie_list type=”checklist”]

  • Incline adjusts automatically but allows you to alter the speed
  • Speed adjusts automatically but allows you to adjust the incline
  • Both the speed and incline change automatically

[/tie_list]

If you prefer to train towards a goal then the Tunturi Classic Run 3.0 also includes workouts specifically designed for this. Whether you want to do a 20km run, burn 500 calories or just workout for 30 minutes there are programs that will count down towards each of these goals.

The remaining 7 programs are broken down into 3 which are heart rate controlled, 3 user programs which you can create yourself and 1 body fat program.

The body fat program requires you to input a few basic personal details including age and height before measuring your heart rate. It will then display your body fat result as a percentage, which can be checked in the future to monitor how much you are progressing.
