The Polar RS100 heart rate monitor comes with all the features you would expect from a high quality product in this range. The product comes in two main sections, the heart rate monitor belt itself and a watch that can be used to display your heart rate.
Setting up the Polar RS100 Heart Rate Monitor
The initial setup of this heart rate monitor is very simple, only requiring you to enter your date of birth and weight. Once you are wearing the belt, to make sure the watch is connected and belt transmitting you just need to press the main button once.
If the belt is transmitting as expected then your heart rate will now be displayed. A second press when you begin your exercise begins to record your heart rate and length of exercise time. There is also an upper part that can show either the lap you are on, the current calorie count or the time.
Once the exercise is complete the Polar RS100 watch reads out length of exercise, average heart rate and calories consumed with the percentage from fat.
Connectivity with exercise machines
If you have a treadmill, exercise bike or cross trainer at home or use one in the gym, then these will often come with specific heart rate programs. As long as the machine is compatible, the Polar RS100 can be used to transmit your heart rate to the machine and avoid you having to hold onto the sensors.
This will also help to give you a more accurate reading throughout your session.
Another nice feature is that the watch has a back light. This can be useful for when you are running at night and has a built in sensor that will alert you when your heart rate drops out or peaks above your target heart rate range.

Automatic age-based target zone – bpm / %
To help you train safely and effectively, the training computer determines your heart rate target zone limits automatically according to your age-based maximum heart rate (220 minus age).
The limits are determined either in beats per minute (bpm), as a percentage (%) of your maximum heart rate, or as a heart rate reserve (% HRR).
Manual target zone – bpm / %
This feature enables you to define the target zone as you want and is suitable for your training. You can set the target zone for your training as beats per minute (bpm), as a percentage of your maximum heart rate, or as a percentage of your heart rate reserve (HRR%).
When you are out of the preset zones, the training computer will give a visual and audible alarm. In Polar software or during strength training, heart rate can be displayed as a graphical trend.
Polar OwnCode® (5kHz) – coded transmission
Coded heart rate transmission automatically locks in a code to transmit your heart rate to the training computer. Coding prevents interference from other training computers.
