Tunturi Platinum Treadmill Review
The Tunturi Platinum Treadmill is a light commercial treadmill designed with an extra large, cushioned running deck to provide a more enjoyable running experience for a wider range of user heights and stride lengths.
This article takes a look at the type of workout programs provided and how easy it is to assemble after you buy, as well as the display console features and how it compares to similarly priced treadmills to help you decide if this is the right treadmill for you.
Design features

Being designed with commercial use in mind, the Tunturi Platinum Treadmill features one of the largest running areas available on any home treadmill.
Measuring 152cm x 56cm this is even larger than the running area on the Tunturi Pure Run 10.0 treadmill (150cm x 50cm), which is around the same price range.
The incline setting is also improved, with a 15% incline compared to the 12% on the Pure 10.0. This being said, the Pure 10.0 does have a higher top speed at 22 km/h compared to the 20 km/h you get with the Tunturi Platinum Treadmill.
To provide an element of security when running, the handrails have been designed to be slightly wider than most treadmills to make them easier to hold onto.
The handles attached to the main display console feature built in heart rate hand sensors for use during the fitness test or heart rate training programs. If you prefer not to hold onto the handles when using these training programs, the Tunturi Platinum Treadmill is also compatible with selected heart rate training straps.
The running deck has also been equipped with high quality shock absorption, helping to prevent the impact on your knee and hip joints as your workout.
An additional safety feature is the use of a safety key. With one end attached to the display console and the other to an item of your clothing, this ensures that if you fall and the clip becomes detached, the belt will stop moving almost immediately.
Ease of assembly
With just the running deck, upright support tubes and display console being the main parts supplied with the Tunturi Platinum Treadmill, fortunately there isn’t a great deal of assembly necessary.
While there are instructions provided in the user guide, the exploded drawings aren’t as clear to follow as when assembling a piece of fitness equipment from the Pure range.
The written instructions are however much more detailed and explain clearly what needs to be done once you have all the parts out of the box.
Attaching the upright support tubes is relatively straightforward, with the main running deck and display console already pre-assembled, meaning you can have this treadmill up and running in under 30 minutes.

Display console design

Many treadmill display units focus too much on adding row after row of buttons to provide you with a wide range of options.
The Tunturi Platinum Treadmill features a vastly simplified design which can be operated using just 6 buttons and a jogwheel.
All the important workout information you need is clearly displayed on the 7″ full colour TFT screen, including time, distance, speed, heart rate and incline setting.
Rather than use the normal plus and minus symbols for the buttons that adjust the speed, the Tunturi Platinum Treadmill uses rabbit and turtle symbols. Although the function is still the same this does make it a lot clearer what the buttons do without the need for labels.
The buttons used for increasing and decreasing the incline setting are positioned alongside these speed setting buttons and will alter the incline by 0.5% each press.
The main menu navigation and selection is achieved using the central jogwheel, which can also be used for adjusting the resistance, display language and user profile settings.
Workout programmes

To help you stay motivated towards training it’s important to consider the variety of workout programs available when buying any new fitness machine.
The Tunturi Platinum Treadmill is supplied with 11 possible training profiles, varying from a simple 5k run to more intense interval training and even a selection of target heart rate programs.
Although all workout programs will help to improve your aerobic fitness and burn fat to some degree, there are also two workouts called ‘Fatburn’ and ‘Cardio’ which have been specifically designed to do just that.
While the general intensity will vary between the different programs, after making your selection you can still set a target time, distance, speed or number of calories burned depending on your own personal goals for that training session.
The Tunturi fitness test
As well as the wide range of preset exercise programs, the Tunturi Platinum Treadmill also features a fitness test.
Based on the Gerkin protocol, this test will gradually increase the speed and incline until you reach around 85% of your maximum heart rate.
As the test progresses, the time, incline, distance, speed and heart rate target will be displayed on the full colour screen. The overall fitness score is then calculated and displayed based on how long it took you to reach 85% of your maximum heart rate.
Tunturi Platinum Treadmill
If you are looking for a high quality, commercial grade treadmill that features an extra large running area and well cushioned running deck to help reduce pressure on your knee joints then the Tunturi Platinum would make an excellent choice.
The only real downside for anyone limited on space in the home to workout is the fact this treadmill isn’t foldable. Aside from this there are some major benefits including the powerful motor that keeps an even pace on the running belt even at low speeds, yet can maintain speeds of up to 18km/h even at the full 15% incline.
Multiple user profiles and workout programs also make this a good choice for anyone looking for a safe and effective workout machine that the whole family can use.
