The main goal behind the design of the Tunturi Platinum Upright Exercise Bike was to create an exercise bike that was everything you could want in terms of training comfort and challenging workouts.
The comprehensive range of training programs, fully adjustable seat and ergonomically designed handlebars are a few of the features looked at in more detail in this product article, aimed at helping you decide if this is the right exercise bike for your style of training.
The slim profile support bars for the seat and display console together with the ergonomically designed handlebars mean that this is an exercise bike that looks and feels very good quality.
To help ensure you are in the most comfortable and natural cycling position for your height, the extra wide padded Velo saddle can be adjusted both vertically and horizontally.
A small lever just underneath the seat can be loosened to allow the seat to slide forwards and back between different preset positions. The small hand wheel at the base of the seat support can be loosened to adjust the height.
Due to the built-in generator powering the display console and 40 different resistance levels, you don’t need to worry about positioning the bike near to a power point.
Although at 50kg the Tunturi Platinum upright bike still isn’t considered light, the set of wheels attached to the front support bar makes it easier to move around if needed when not in use.
Ease of assembly
Similar to the Platinum Treadmill, although there are pages of instructions with exploded drawings these are not as easy to understand compared to those provided with exercise equipment in the Pure range.
To make up for this, the level of textual instruction for the Tunturi Platinum upright bike is much better and details exactly the parts that you need at different points throughout each step.
Being a bit more complex in design than the Platinum Treadmill, the assembly time will likely take a little longer but should still be possible in less than 40 minutes.
The base frame and housing for the large 14kg flywheel comes already pre-assembled. This leaves just the handlebar section to be built and the floor supports and seat to be attached.

Display console design
If you already own a piece of cardio equipment from the Platinum range then the display console on the Tunturi Platinum upright bike will feel very familiar.
Changing the current workout program, adjusting the training resistance and user settings is all managed through menu options display on the 7″ full colour display screen.
The jogwheel can be used to scroll through these menu options and adjust the resistance and user settings. This helps reduce the number of buttons needed on the actual display console.
While two buttons have been added, these are only for starting or stopping your workout. Relying on the screen and not having a large selection of buttons means it is much clearer to see which workout program you are using. This also makes it quicker to setup one of the custom user profiles.
With 11 preset training profiles to choose from, the Tunturi Platinum upright bike is well suited to providing challenging workouts for a variety of fitness levels.
The two target heart rate programs prompt you to set a target heart rate level and duration for a workout.
Most other programs are targeted at specific goals, with one designed to maximize fat loss, one specifically designed to increase your cardiovascular health as well as an interval training program to improve your endurance.
If you just feel like a regular cycling workout where you might only want to set a target duration for your training while still being able to adjust the resistance when required, then this is also possible with the ‘Manual’ training program.
The Tunturi Platinum upright bike also features a fitness test, based around the YMCA protocol. This is used to measure the maximum oxygen uptake capacity by starting off at a low level of effort, then steadily increasing until you reach 85% of your maximum heart rate.
This is possible either using the built in hand grip pulse sensors on the handlebars or using a compatible heart rate chest belt.
The Tunturi Platinum Upright Exercise Bike provides you with a variety of workout programs while still remaining very simple to use.
The 40 levels of resistance ensure that workouts stay useful and challenging for a variety of fitness levels.
Being part of Tunturi’s Platinum range means that you can be sure of a high build quality and a cycling position that can be based entirely around your height and body type.
