Tunturi Pure U 10.0 Upright Exercise Bike Review
The Tunturi Pure U 10.0 Upright Exercise Bike is the top exercise bike in the Pure range. This has been designed to meet the requirements of a variety of different body heights and types, as well as fitness levels.
With the large touch screen display making it possible to connect to the internet through Wi-Fi, you can even browse the web or send e-mails all while working out.
The following product article aims to cover all aspects of the design, workout features and even assembly and storage to help provide a clear idea if this is the right exercise bike for you.
Design features
One of the most important things to look for when buying a new exercise bike is how well it can be adjusted to suit different heights and body types.
The Tunturi Pure U 10.0 features a fully adjustable seat which can be raised and lowered, as well as sliding forwards and backwards to help you find the perfect seating position.
To make it as easy as possible to get onto the bike, the pedal height has been designed with a low instep. This keeps the pedal low to the ground and makes it easier to keep your balance when climbing off the bike.
One of the great benefits of the Tunturi Pure U 10.0 over other exercise machines such as treadmills and cross trainers, is that it is much easier to move and store.
With the slim profile frame helping to keep the weight under 55kg, smaller dimensions and set of transport wheels added to the rear of the bike, this will definitely make it easier to store and move if workout space is limited.
Display console design and media features
The high quality design of the display console and screen is exactly what you would expect from the top upright exercise bike in the new Pure range.
Instead of relying on a jogwheel or series of buttons, the workout programmes and settings of the Tunturi Pure U 10.0 are operated entirely through the large 10.2″, full colour LCD touch screen.
To help preserve as much screen space as possible, the main menu items have been created as a series of icons and positioned in a line on the left of the screen.
Once you get used to what each icon means this makes it much easier to change any workout settings you want, even if it is in the middle of your workout.
Although there aren’t any buttons that affect your workouts, the volume and brightness of the screen can be controlled using a set of buttons on the side of the display.
While most exercise bikes you come across will have the usual options such as adjusting your current workout programme and even setting up custom user profiles, the range of media features that come with the Tunturi Pure U 10.0 make this bike a bit more special.
Connecting to the internet using Wi-Fi, reading a book with the built-in E-Book reader and listening to music through the media centre have all been included to help make your workouts more interesting and more enjoyable. You can even connect your iPhone to the display if you have one.

Ease of assembly
While exercise bikes aren’t known for being particularly difficult to put together, the design of the Tunturi Pure U 10.0 means this has been kept as simple as possible.
The main flywheel housing and base frame comes as a pre-assembled section, meaning you just need to build the handlebar unit, seat support and attach the base stabilizing platforms.
The user manual provided shows everything you need, from the number of bolts and washers you should have in the box, to exploded drawings and even suggesting how much room you need for assembling.
Workout programmes
Something that Tunturi have become particularly well known for is the quality and variety of their workout programmes.
While you still have all the usual ‘Quick Start’, heart rate controlled and resistance based workouts, there are also a few specific to Tunturi that have been designed to give you a more enjoyable exercise experience.
The Tunturi Pure U 10.0 includes 3 of these programmes, each with many different variations.
T-Road – This prompts you to set a start and end point for your workout, then allows you to manually change the resistance as much as you like until you reach the end point.
This programme will also display your cycling progress as a video on the screen throughout your training.
T-Ride – Similar to the ‘T-Road’ workout programme, this will allow you to set start and end points as well as alter the resistance, but doesn’t display your progress as a video.
T-Music – A more exciting version of the heart rate controlled workout programmes, ‘T-Music’ changes the tempo of the music according to your heart rate.
This requires measurement of your heart rate through either holding onto the hand grip sensors or wearing a heart rate chest belt, and will last 40 minutes.
Built in fitness test
Whether you are just starting a new fitness routine or have been training for years, it’s important to be able to be able to measure improvements in your overall fitness level over time.
The Tunturi Pure U 10.0 features a built in fitness test which can be used for displaying a variety of results, including an overall grade for your aerobic fitness level.
Due to being based around your heart rate, this does require that you wear a heart rate chest belt. The level of cycling effort initially starts very low but increases in resistance until you are training at around 85% of your maximum heart rate.
This test must also be carried out after choosing a user profile to base the results on. This is because the main aerobic fitness grade at the end of the test is calculated based on your age and heart rate.
To ensure the test is as accurate as possible, three different variations have been included. You can choose between ‘Athletic’, ‘Active’ or ‘Inactive’ depending on your current level of physical activity.
