Design features
[one_half]The Tunturi Pure U 8.0 exercise bike includes a variety of useful design features, from the heart rate hand sensors on the handlebars to the simplicity of the water bottle holder.
In order to have an enjoyable and effective workout it’s important to be able to stay focussed on your training. One of the things that can distract you during a workout is the machine you are using being unstable and wobbling while you train.
This is why the Tunturi Pure U 8.0 has been designed with adjustable supporting feet to keep the bike stable when on uneven ground.[/one_half]

Another of the important features to look for when buying a new exercise bike is how well it can adjust to different user heights. Taller users will have longer legs, making it import to be able to adjust the position of the seat to keep the cycling motion as natural as possible.
The seat on the Tunturi Pure U 8.0 has been designed to be adjustable both vertically and horizontally. This is achieved by simply loosening the relevant hand wheel and sliding the seat to the position that suits you best.
[one_half]As a general guide it/s best to position one of the pedals at its lowermost position, at which point the arch of your foot should be touching with your leg almost straight.
Despite the slim profile frame design and small overall size compared to exercise equipment such as treadmills and cross trainers, it can also be important to be able to move the bike if necessary.
With the Tunturi Pure U 8.0 Weighing around 50kg, the transport wheels positioned at the back of the bike certainly help make this easier.[/one_half]

Ease of assembly
In contrast with the complicated and wordy instructions that are supplied with many fitness machines, the user manual for the Tunturi Pure U 8.0 keeps everything very simple.
Despite not including a single word of description on how the parts fit together, with just 5 pages of exploded drawings you have everything you need.
[one_half]The housing for the 9kg flywheel is supplied pre-assembled and attached to the main base frame.
The only real assembly required is to build the handlebar frame and attach the display console, seat, pedals and base supports.
The combination of the large, clear drawings and the simple frame design and assembly mean that you can have the Tunturi Pure U 8.0 setup within 30 minutes of unpacking the box.[/one_half]

Display console design
[one_half]The Tunturi Pure U 8.0 display console, while similar in design to the Pure U 6.0 does have some major differences when it comes to both the button functions and the display screen.
The text on the buttons has now been replaced with symbols. Thanks to their intuitive design these help make it quicker to identify which screen you want displayed.
The buttons on the right of the jog wheel are the ones you will probably use most often, with one for accessing the training menu and one for displaying the user profile screen.
The screen is more than 15% larger at 7″ and is now a full colour graphic display. This means that you can use the central jogwheel for scrolling through the various menu options that are now available.[/one_half]

These include ‘Quick Start’, ‘Watt Control’, ‘T-Ride’ and ‘Target HR’, each of which we will look at in more detail later.
As well as these workout programs, the Tunturi Pure U 8.0 also comes with a fitness test option.

Fitness test
The Tunturi fitness test is a multi-step test which differs depending on which fitness category you fall into. ‘Athletic’, ‘Active’ and ‘Inactive’ are the options provided, after which you are asked to set your target heart rate (85% of your maximum).
The test will gradually increase the resistance and intensity until you reach this heart rate level, as which point the display screen will show you various test data.
This includes a grade from 1 to 7 which is based on your maximal oxygen uptake, with 7 being the best. You can then use this as a way of measuring your fitness levels over time and to see how much you improve across your future training sessions.

Creating your own custom workouts and user profiles
One of the main benefits of buying the Tunturi Pure U 8.0 over the earlier 6.0 model is in the increase in the number of user created workouts you can store.
Being able to store up to 20 workouts that you create yourself, this is a huge increase compared to the 5 you are able to create and store using the Pure U 6.0.
There is also an increase in the number of profiles you can store on the user register, from 5 to 8. This makes the bike well suited for light commercial use such as schools, hotels and health spas as well as in the home.
By creating a user profile this allows you to save your training information at the end of each workout.
Before you start your next workout you can then view your data from the previous training session and set yourself a mental target if you want to. This can be anything from for increasing the distance you cycle to how quickly you cover the same distance as the previous workout.

Workout programmes
The Tunturi Pure U 8.0 includes 10 preset training profiles, with 5 being based around training resistance (Watt Control) and the other 5 being based on your heart rate (Target HR).
To make sure that the workouts cater for a range of different fitness levels, the intensity of these has been broken down into 3 categories; ‘Beginner’, ‘All ‘ and ‘Fit’.
Also included are two interval training programs, with one being heart rate controlled and based around improving your endurance and the other designed to use higher resistance levels more frequently to improve your strength and power.
‘T-Ride’ is one of Tunturi’s own workout programs and allows you to go a stage further with varying your workouts.
Before starting this workout you can choose the terrain as well as the start and end points, while still being able to manually adjust the resistance throughout your training.
