This product article takes a look at the features and workout programs in a bit more detail to help you decide if this is the exercise bike best suited to your own fitness training.

Design features
Whenever you look to buy a new piece of workout equipment (cardio equipment in particular) it’s important you are comfortable when training.
You will often be sitting, running or standing for extended periods of time so it’s important the range of motion the machine matches your height and body type correctly.
To help with this, the York Active 120 has been designed with adjustable handlebars, a fully adjustable seat and height adjusters attached to the rear stabilizer.
The seat can be adjusted quickly using either the hand wheel placed under the seat, or the one attached to the vertical seat support if you want to raise or lower the height.
A set of wheels attached to the front stabilizer make it easier to tilt the bike forwards and roll the machine to wherever you need to, which is useful if you need to store the bike in between workouts.

Ease of assembly
If you have owned a York exercise bike in the past, in terms of the steps required to setup the Active 120 you will probably find these very similar.
The large base section containing the 7kg flywheel comes already pre-assembled and sits upright even before you attach the base stabilizers, which makes assembly much easier if you are setting the bike up on your own.
Once the base stabilizers are attached it’s just a case of building the seat and handlebar supports, making it possible to have the bike fully assembled in less than 20 minutes.
As with all of the York exercise bikes, the user manual for the York Active 120 clearly walks you through each step using a combination of exploded drawings and part numbers.

Display console design
In terms of the display console design, this manages to provide you with a wide range of information and options while still keeping everything very easy to find quickly.
To save you having to scroll through the different workout programmes or check the user manual, each of the 12 preset programs is summarised using a small graph just below the main screen.
The screen itself is a 5.75’’ LCD, split up into sections to clearly display all the important workout information such as time, heart rate, speed, distance, calories burned and even a large area to show the current workout program.[/one_half]

The black and white colours together with the glowing blue outline around the buttons really make this look and feel like a very high quality console.

Workout programmes
Together with the standard ‘Manual’ option which lets you set a target for the time, distance, heart rate or calories burned, the York Active 120 also includes an additional 17 workout programs (12 pre-set, 4 heart rate controlled and 1 user defined).
These range from a range of heart rate controlled and interval training programs to hill climb programs where the resistance increases more gradually.
These have the benefit of adding variety to your workouts, as well as providing workouts for different fitness levels.
As well as these training programs created to help improve your overall fitness, there is also a fitness test option.
This provides you with a fitness score based on how quickly your heart rate returns to normal after exercise and can be a useful way of measuring your progress across a number of workouts.
