The Bodymax CF475 Heavy Power Rack is a great example of a power rack that has been well constructed and offers all the stability and safety most serious weightlifters are looking for today.
Whether you are looking to buy a power rack for a home gym or a commercial gym, the most important thing to look for is how easily and quickly the supporting bars can be adjusted and how safely the weight can be racked in the rest once you have finished lifting.
When would you need the Bodymax CF475 Heavy Power Rack?
[one_half]If you aren’t familiar with power racks but have seen people in the gym watching over someone else lifting a weight that they are struggling with after 1 or a few repetitions, then the power rack is essentially doing the same job. It needs to be able to support the bar if the weight becomes too heavy midway through a repetition, or if you become off balance and need to quickly take the weight off to prevent injury.
With the Bodymax CF475 Heavy Power Rack you have a very solidly made outer frame that has feet to prevent the frame from slipping on more slippery surfaces, and support bars running along each side of the rack. There are holes throughout the frame on each side that these can be secured into to adjust to a level that is useful for you for that particular lift.
For example, if you are looking to do heavy squats then you would usually want the bars just below where your legs are parallel with the ground.[/one_half]

This is so you don’t touch the bars at the bottom of the range of motion for that rep. They are still there as a support just below that level so you don’t have to crouch too much lower and put unnecessary strain on your back and knees. You can then just rest the bar on the support bars and slide out from under the bar.
A good power rack is also great for exercises such as shrugs, where you will often use a barbell loaded with a very heavy weight for a relatively small range of motion. By resting the bar on the bar supports of the Bodymax CF475 you can start off with the bar right next to your thigh so you can just start lifting, compared with smith machines where you would have to unrack the bar, or regular racks where you would have to unrack the bar and walk back a small distance to move clear of the rack and start lifting.

In terms of how the power rack is delivered, this is usually in a single large box of around 7ft in length and weighing around 70kg. If possible it is recommended that you find another person to help you setup just because of the size of the cage making some parts a bit tricky to tighten the bolts for and hold up.
If you are looking to purchase a barbell for this then it’s worth mentioning that due to this being a heavy duty power rack, it’s best to purchase a full length Olympic Bar and not one of the smaller barbell options to make sure it fits and can be racked securely.
There are also the pull-up handles at the front of the power rack that make it possible to do pull-ups with both a wide overhand grip, and with a slightly narrower grip depending on which muscles in your back you want to put the most focus into developing. It is also worth saying that if you do weigh more than around 90kg it could be worth making sure there is a loaded barbell resting in the rack (on the proper rack not just resting on the bars) as this will prevent any rocking of the frame when doing pull-ups due to the relatively light nature of the frame on its own.
