The Bodymax CF625 preacher curl bench is a commercial grade piece of weightlifting equipment designed to isolate the biceps when performing preacher curls, whether using a barbell or dumbbell.

What is a preacher curl?

If your biceps workouts currently include some form of standing curl exercise, whether it’s with a barbell, dumbbells, or cable extension, there is always the possibility of using too much of your back and shoulder muscles to do the work by swinging the weight up.

Preacher curls are designed to take away any opportunity to swing the body into the exercise, isolating the biceps and keeping the tension loaded on this muscle.

Despite the raised position of your elbows, you can still get a full stretch on the biceps and the same complete range of motion as standing curls, just from an angle that allows for more isolation.

Bench design features

[one_half]The Bodymax CF625 heavy duty preacher curl bench has been ergonomically designed to position your arms in the most effective position for your height.

This is mainly thanks to the adjustable preacher curl pad, which can slide up and down inside the main support frame, locking in place at a wide range of preset positions.

If you have used a standard weights bench in the past you will probably notice the seat is designed to be slightly larger on the Bodymax CF625 preacher bench.[/one_half]

This is because there are no angles that the seat has to adjust to, and allows you to position your upper body in the most comfortable way to perform the exercise.

Another of the benefits of this bench is the addition of the barbell racking point at the front.

Whereas standing barbell curls will usually require you to pick the barbell up from the floor, by already positioning the barbell at the starting point of the preacher curl this helps reduce the risk of bicep injuries and allows you to focus all of your energy on the curl.

Although the Bodymax CF625 features the built-in barbell racking point, there is also enough room between the bar supports to perform preacher curls using a dumbbell instead.

Using a dumbbell for preacher curls allows for a more natural range of motion and better isolation, with the wrist not being in a fixed position due to both hands gripping the barbell.

How can preacher curls improve my bicep development?

[one_half]In general the preacher curl is considered a very safe exercise for working your biceps.

There is very little danger of using a weight that is too heavy, as the isolating range of motion won’t allow the bar to swing up using momentum the same way as standing barbell curls will.

This is also an exercise that is most often performed using a cambered bar, also referred to as an ‘EZ curl bar‘.[/one_half]

The preacher curl is possibly the single best exercise for isolating the biceps[/one_half_last]

The angles of this bar reduce the pressure on the wrists compared to a straight bar, making it a very effective alternative to straight bar curls for anyone that suffers from wrist pain.

In terms of the particular muscles that will be worked by performing preacher curls on the Bodymax CF625 will focus on, most of the work is done by the Brachioradialis (top of your forearms) and both the long and short heads of the bicep.
