Convenient plate sizes for increasing strength
The Marcy 100kg Olympic weight plate set comes with a pair of 15kg plates, pair of 10kg plates, 4 of the 5kg plates, 4 of the 2.5kg plates and 4 of the 1.25kg plates. Although it doesn’t come with any 20kg plates, this is often only necessary when you start lifting weights in excess of 300lb and need to get through warm up sets quicker.
The higher number of lighter weight plates also means that you can actually progress quicker in your strength gains. If you were to only have 10kg plates and were looking to stay in an effective rep range of 6 to 10 reps, even if you managed 10 reps with 20kg each side on a barbell curl that wouldn’t mean you could manage the 6 reps if you went up another 10kg per side.
