Powerline Vertical Leg Press
The Powerline Vertical Leg Press is one of the few vertical leg press machines that are available for home as well as commercial use.
Mainly used for working your quadriceps, hamstrings and glutes, this leg press takes a lot of the strain out of your lower back that can happen when performing other heavy leg press exercises such as squats.
Although the Powerline Vertical Leg Press isn’t adjustable in terms of the back and head rest positions, the head rest is well padded and the back support platform long enough to cater for taller users.
The range of motion can be fixed so that the weight platform can’t drop below a certain point. This means you can adjust the minimum height of the weight stack until you find a height and range of motion that is right for you.

Using the Powerline Vertical Leg Press
[one_half]Once you are in position under the weight with your head on the rest and back flat on the platform, get a solid foot position on the supporting bar, take the strain on your leg muscles and pull out the locking pins on either side.
This is if you want a full range of motion. If you want to limit the range of motion then leave the weight pins in at one of the three pre-drilled holes in the side bars.
As with any vertical leg press machine, if you are looking to use heavier weight with the larger Olympic weight plates then always make sure the weight is evenly distributed across the 3 bars.[/one_half]

It sounds simple but even loading the weight across the two end bars and missing the middle will mean the weight stacks on the end are much higher and have slight movement when reaching full leg extension.
By positioning your toes on the bar that supports the weight and having your legs at full extension, you can also use the Powerline Vertical Leg Press for calf exercises. It’s best to start off with a much lighter weight than for the leg press until you get used to this movement though.
(For using Olympic weight plates instead of standard weight plates you will need 3 x adaptor sleeves)

Safety features
As well as the head rest and back support being designed to provide as much protection and position you as naturally as possible for performing the movement to avoid injury, there are several other built in safety features.
The Powerline Vertical Leg Press also has three holes in the main supporting bars either side of the back support, and a pin that can slide into any of these to stop the weight dropping below a certain level.
This is useful for when you want the weight rack to be high enough to get your legs into position comfortably without feeling cramped.
When you first press the weight up at the start of a set you then take these pins out and lower the weight in a controlled way until you feel the weight platform touch on the thicker frame support sections on the side bars. This allows for a much greater range of motion than if you keep the safety pins in place.
When you are finished with your set you can simply replace the pins with your legs at a similar position to where you started and the weight will be racked securely, with no danger of being trapped under the bar.
This means you can use it at home on your own with confidence and without the need for a spotter. (Someone to take the weight if it becomes too much to lift, more commonly used in bench press or squat exercises)
